Visit by Delegation from the University of the Philippines

On 16 April 2009, a group of five delegates from the University of the Philippines visited CeLS. LSI Director Prof Ong Choon Nam and Scientific Manager Dr Sumita Anant gave a briefing on LSI after which the group toured the lab facilities in CeLS, led by LSI Building Manager, Mr Arnel Zornosa.

LSI’s Molecular Epidemiology programme (CME) was given a very generous donation of S$300,000 this year to continue with their breast cancer research programme. This is the second donation from a donor, who wishes to remain anonymous. [READ MORE]

Young Researcher Award

The University recently honoured 10 outstanding individuals at the University Awards 2009 which was held on Friday, 24 April 2009 at the University Cultural Centre. The People’s Republic of China Councillor, Her Excellency Madam Liu Yandong, called on CeLS on Friday, 24 April 2009. Her Excellency Madam Liu Yandong, with some other 15 members visited the labs at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore. A/Prof Goh Boon Cher, Program Leader from Experimental Therapeutics Program and A/Prof Richie Soong, Director of Translational Interface Core Facility hosted the lab tour.

The month of April 2009 saw two lectures being held at the CeLS Auditorium.

On 9 April, Prof Neal Copeland, Executive Director of the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMBC) delivered a lecture titled “Harnessing Transposons for Cancer Gene Discovery”. Prof Daniel G. Tenen, Director of the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore chaired this lecture.

Another lecture titled “Directional Delta/Notch Trafficking in Asymmetric Sara Endosomes During Asymmetric Cell Division” was delivered by Prof Marcos González-Gaitán from the University of Geneva, Switzerland on 15 April. A/Prof Markus Wenk from Department of Biochemistry and LSI Neurobiology/Ageing Programme hosted the lecture.
