LSI Symposium

LSI Sym

The LSI Symposium chaired by Prof Peter Little, Director, LSI was held on Thursday, 6 August 2009 at the CeLS auditorium.

Programme Leaders and Representatives from the LSI Programmes made presentations on their respective research areas. Attended by about 90 researchers and graduate students from the LSI Programmes, it was a great opportunity for Programmes to learn about their fellow researchers’ areas and interests.

Possible areas for joint collaboration are being discussed among programmes following the symposium.

National Day Awards

Assoc Prof Keson Tan, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry was awarded the Public Administration Medal(Silver).

Assoc Prof Benjamin Ong, Dept of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Member of the Neurobiology Programme was awarded the Public Administration Medal(Silver).

2009 National Medical Excellence Awards

Professor John Wong Eu Li, Dean, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine received the National Outstanding Clinician Award from the Ministry of Health

This award recognizes individuals for their exceptional contributions to clinical work through advances in the safety and quality of patient care. In addition the individual has supported and facilitated research and or successfully introduced novel/effective treatment in his clinical practice. The individual is also recognized by one’s peers as being a master clinician.

NRF POC Grants

Sixteen projects have been awarded Proof-of-Concept Grants by the National Research Foundation (NRF) under the Proof-of-Concept (POC) Scheme. The grants worth $75 million have been set aside for the 16 project teams to develop their inventions into prototypes, bringing them closer to commercialisation. [READ MORE]

Dr Yang Zheng (from the Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery and member of the LSI Tissue Engineering Programme) has a recent paper published in the journal Stem Cells and Development, titled: ‘Stage-dependent effect of TGFβ on chondrogenic differentiation of human embryonic stem cells’. [READ MORE]

International Conference on Bioinformatics

The International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB), an official conference of the Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet) will be held in Singapore for the first time, from 7 to 11 September 2009 at Matrix, Biopolis. [READ MORE]
